A Bittersweet Farwell

Psalm 23 (NKJV)

A Psalm of David.
 1 The LORD is my shepherd;
         I shall not want.
 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
         He leads me beside the still waters.
 3 He restores my soul;
         He leads me in the paths of righteousness
         For His name’s sake.

 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
         I will fear no evil;
         For You are with me;
         Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
         You anoint my head with oil;
         My cup runs over.
 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
         All the days of my life;
         And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
         Forever.

Lat Saturday after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer my friend G's dad entered into eternal rest. Today we attended his memorial mass. He was at peace, the family had been expecting it for a while now, but he hung on as long as he could. Mr. F always had a smile on his face even during the most difficult times  under going treatment after treatment. But we all know he is in better place, free of pain and looking down on his wife of 38 years, their daughter and three sons with that infectious smile of his. After the service today the family invited everyone back to their house to have a swim because that's the way Mr. F would have wanted it, I think that says alot about a man and his family. I ask that you say a little prayer for this family as they still go through this difficult time in their lives of adjustment.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
